The four 93,000 cbm-capacity ammonia carriers will be the largest in the world. The design of the ammonia carrier will be similar to the fourth-generation VLGC model developed and designed by Jiangnan Shipbuilding.
They are scheduled for delivery in mid-2026. The vessels will also be equipped with LPG dual-fuel engine, while being ready to run on ammonia in future.
Green ammonia is regarded as the most promising alternative fuel for the shipping industry to achieve zero-carbon emissions.
"The growing demand for ammonia fuel is expected to keep increasing which will create more orders for long-distance ammonia carriers, and Jiangnan has been actively working with maritime industry partners to promote the development of zero-emission liquid gas carrier,” Jiangnan Shipyard said.
