Spanish bunker volumes increased 9% year-on-year in June

Bunker suppliers in Spanish ports sold a total of 853,000 mt of fuel to ships in June, up 9% on the same month last year, government data showed.

Spanish bunker sales averaged 775,000 mt a month in the five years to 2025. June sales were comfortably above that and at the highest monthly total since November 2025.

Algeciras posted the largest gain by volume, up 47,000 mt, or 20%, to 285,000 mt. Tenerife rose 21,000 mt, or 45%, to 68,000 mt.

Valencia recorded the largest fall, down 16,000 mt, or 29%, to 40,000 mt, although its first-half volumes were up 10% on last year.

Algeciras’ bunker sales made up 33% of the country’s total in June, followed by Las Palmas (25%) and Barcelona (16%).

Slightly more bunker fuel was sold in Spanish ports in the first half of the year than in the same period last year, with sales up 1% to 4.8 million mt.

Vigo, Sevilla and Gijón reported little or no fuel supply this year after selling normally in 2025. If those are reporting gaps rather than genuine stoppages, the underlying rise was closer to 2%.

Tenerife's volumes rose the most by tonnage in the first six months, up 111,000 mt, or 33%, to 448,000 mt. Las Palmas fell 74,000 mt, or 5%, to 1.3 million mt, and Algeciras slipped 2% despite strong June sales.
