Under the contract, Stabilis will supply LNG bunkers to Carnival’s LNG-fuelled cruise ship, Carnival Jubilee, from its owned liquefaction facility in Texas. The two-year contact has an option of two-year extension.
“LNG delivers immediate greenhouse gas emission reductions and is the best available market-ready fuel to help cut ship greenhouse gas emissions now," Carnival’s senior vice president of maritime affairs Tom Strang says.
LNG can curb carbon dioxide emissions by about a quarter compared to conventional bunker fuels. But its methane emissions can be 36 times more potent as a greenhouse gas (GHG) compared to carbon dioxide over a century, according to a World Bank study.
