The ferry, Stena Connecta, is designed to run on methanol and features technology that allows it to use battery propulsion and shore power when available. It will also be equipped with rotor sails, which harness wind power to support propulsion, though the supplier of these sails has not been disclosed.

It is one of two new vessels set to operate on the Belfast, Northern Ireland – Heysham, England route. The other vessel, Stena Futura, is currently being fitted out and is expected to enter service in autumn 2025, with Stena Connecta following in early 2026.
