The barge Birjo II, owned by DK Shipping, isused for transporting biodiesel from Sunoil’s production facility in Kampen to its storage locations through Dutch inland waterways.

Birjo II will now operate on Sunoil’s own biodiesel while transporting renewable fuels, Sunoil’s chief commercial officer Jeroen Hovius said. The barge will be fueled directly from the Kampen production facility.

Sunoil says its biodiesel is made using feedstocks such as used cooking oil, food wastes, and animal fats unfit for feed and food use. It is used as a blending component in bunker fuel, the company's website states.

After switching to B100, the barge can reduce CO2 emissions by upto 90%, while continuing normal operations without replacing its engine. The transition was done in collaboration with BFT Tanker Logistics.
