MFMs are specialised devices installed on barges to ensure precise and transparent measurements during fuel transfer processes in bunkering. It ensures accurate bunker fuel measurements, reducing errors and disputes between suppliers and bunker buyers.
The bunker barge, the Sea Emperor, was recently equipped with a MFM in Walvis Bay, Namibia. This installation was a joint effort by TFG Marine, Swiss instrument company Endress+Hauser, and Singapore-based maritime consulting firm Metcore International.
TFG Marine has already fitted more than half of its bunker barges with MFM systems and aims to complete the installation across its entire fleet over the next two years, a spokesperson from TFG Marine told ENGINE in January.
The company supports the adoption of a Singapore-style MFM-based bunker licensing system by other ports and regions to enhance transparency in the bunker industry.
All of TFG Marine’s bunkering barges operating in the ports of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp (the ARA hub) are now equipped with MFMs, it says.
