Three cruise ships connect to shore power simultaneously at Bergen

Three cruise ships connected to the shore power facility simultaneously for the first time in the Norwegian Port of Bergen.

Three cruise ships namely Sky Princess, Viking Mars, and Viking Star connected to shore power in Bergen on Sunday.

Bergen’s “shore power facility for cruise ships is the largest in Europe, and three ships can connect at the same time,” the port authority claims.

The facility was ready before

“More and more ships are now using electricity instead of diesel while docked in the port,” Port of Bergen’s director Michal Forland says.

Earlier this month, the port authority announced that 65% of the cruise ships connected to the shore power facilities at the port in April, instead of burning diesel when docked. 15 cruise ships called the port in April, a spokesperson from the port authority told ENGINE.
