Titan lines up LNG bunker vessel for West Med supply

Molgas-owned bunker supplier Titan Clean Fuels will charter a new LNG bunker vessel to expand its physical supply operations across major ports in the western Mediterranean.

French shipowner Sogestran Group has ordered the 6,000-cbm dual-fuel LNG bunker vessel, which Titan will charter under a long-term agreement.

The vessel will be built by China's CIMC SOE shipyard and will be capable of running on methane and conventional fuels. A delivery timeline has not yet been disclosed.

Titan currently supplies LNG and liquefied biomethane (LBM) across the ARA region. The new vessel will extend its physical supply capacity to the western Mediterranean, including the ports of Fos-Marseille, Barcelona and Genoa.

The expansion comes as tighter emissions rules increase pressure on vessels operating in the Mediterranean to use cleaner fuels, Titan said.

The Mediterranean became a sulphur oxide (SOx) and particulate matter (PM) Emission Control Area (ECA) in May 2025, requiring ships to use fuels with a maximum sulphur content of 0.10% or adopt alternative compliance methods.

LNG and LBM produce negligible SOx and particulate matter emissions compared with conventional fuels, making them an option for complying with the stricter requirements.

The new vessel will offer ship-to-ship LNG and LBM bunkering as well as gas-up and cooldown services. It will join Molgas Group’s existing fleet of eight LNG bunker vessels operating in Northern Europe, including six operated by Titan and two by Molgas Norway.

“We’re excited to grow our LNG bunker vessel fleet, by expanding our capacity to cater to our clients in terms of bunkering volume and geographical location,” Titan's commercial director Grégoire Hartig said.

“LNG and LBM have proven to be the leading alternative fuels as the shipping industry continues its energy transition, and we intend to match this growing demand," he added.
