Dutch LNG supplier Titan LNG has struck a deal with Brittany Ferries to supply LNG and liquified biomethane (LBM) to two of its Ro-Pax vessels in the English Channel.

The vessels are hybrids that will partly run on batteries and on LNG. They are expected to come into operation in the next 2-3 years.

Titan LNG says it will supply both vessels while they are operating cargo in ports, to avoid delays. They are set to run on routes connecting the UK’s Portsmouth with the French ports of Saint-Malo and Ouistreham.

In addition to the LNG supplied by Titan, the vessels will be equipped with 10 MWh battery power systems for propulsion and manouvering in ports, and 8 MWh electric shore power systems.

Earlier this year, Portsmouth port announced it is planning to install an onshore power supply system to power Brittany Ferries' vessels. The port aims to complete the work before 2024.
