Titan signs e-methane offtake agreement with Turn2X
Bunker supplier Titan Clean Fuels will supply e-methane produced by Germany-based TURN2X for bunkering from 2028.

TURN2X launched production at its first commercial e-methane facility in Miajadas, Spain, in March 2024. The plant produces e-methane by combining green hydrogen with biogenic CO2.
The e-methane is fed into the existing gas grid and transported to major European ports. Titan then supplies this mass-balanced e-methane to its customers.
The company added that its network of seven bunker vessels, operating across around 52 European ports, could support scaling up the supply of the fuel.
E-methane as a compliance option
E-methane, produced from green hydrogen and biogenic CO2, can offer near-zero emissions on a well-to-wake basis, depending on the production pathway and the vessel’s engine type.
This makes the fuel eligible for FuelEU Maritime overcompliance, and the surplus compliance can be used for banking or pooling.
The e-methane produced at the TURN2X facility is certified as a renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO), allowing its use to be double-counted towards a ship’s GHG reduction until the end of 2033.
FuelEU Maritime has also set a target for RFNBOs to account for at least 1% of energy used on board ships covered in 2031. If this threshold is not met, the regulation has the provision to introduce a ship-specific requirement for 2% RFNBO energy from 1 January 2034, with penalties for non-compliance.
