The 4,200 TEU container ship COSCO Houston was supplied with a bio-VLSFO stem through a ship-to-ship (STS) transfer in Singapore. The containership used the biofuel to complete its voyage to Jakarta in Indonesia.
The delivered biofuel was a blend of 20% ISCC-certified UCOME (Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester) and VLSFO. TotalEnergies claims its B20, or 20%, bio-VLSFO blend can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emission by 17% compared to conventional fuel on a lifecycle assessment basis.
Apart from TotalEnergies, the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and tank storage firm Vopak Terminals Singapore were involved during STS transfer.
In June, TotalEnergies supplied a bio-VLSFO stem to RoRo vessels operated by Japanese shipping firm Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) in Singapore.
