Tsuneishi Group delivers fourth methanol-capable container ship

Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, has delivered its fourth methanol dual-fuel container vessel.

The 5,900 TEU vessel is equipped with a dual-fuel propulsion system capable of operating on methanol as well as conventional fuel oil. The company, however, has not disclosed further details about the vessel, including its name or owner.

Tsuneishi Shipbuilding delivered its third methanol dual-fuel 5,900 TEU container vessel in June. The shipbuilder also launched two methanol dual-fuel container ships in August and October last year.

According to DNV data, 154 methanol-capable vessels are currently in operation globally, while the global methanol-capable vessel orderbook comprises 294 additional vessels scheduled for delivery through 2030.

The container shipping sector leads both in operational methanol-capable vessels, with 89, and in additional orders scheduled for delivery through 2030, with 158, the DNV data shows.
