Typhoon Gaemi keeps bunkering suspended in Taiwanese ports

Bunker deliveries in Taiwanese ports have been halted since yesterday due to Typhoon Gaemi.

The typhoon made landfall around midnight on the northeastern coast of Taiwan in Yilan County and is now in the Taiwan Strait, heading towards Fuzhou in China's Fujian province, according to Chinese weather agency Central Weather Administration.

A Tanzania-flagged freighter with nine Myanmar nationals sank off the coast of Kaohsiung, with no response from the crew yet. Search efforts are ongoing, as reported by Reuters quoting Taiwan's fire department.

Taiwan is expected to experience more rain today, keeping most of the country shut for the second consecutive day.

Bunkering operations at major Taiwanese ports including Hualien, Kaohsiung, Taichung and Keelung are expected to resume tomorrow, a source says.

The disruption is expected to extend lead times at Taiwanese ports to about four days, according to a trader.

Additionally, bunker deliveries in China’s Zhoushan have been suspended since Monday due to rough weather caused by Typhoon Gaemi. Most suppliers expect bunker deliveries to resume on Monday, when calmer weather is forecast.
