A fire broke out at the Moscow oil refinery in Russia's Kapotnya district yesterday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed.
Russian air defence units destroyed at least nine drones launched towards Moscow, Sobyanin said. “Another downed drone damaged a separate technical room of the Moscow Oil Refinery as a result of its fall,” he confirmed on the Telegram messaging app.
The refinery is owned by Gazprom Neft, the oil arm of the Russian gas giant, Reuters reported.
Falling drone debris also caused a fire at another facility situated at the Konakovo Power Station in the neighbouring Tver region, according to another Reuters report.
“Ukraine fired a barrage of drones at Russia over the weekend,” raising oil supply concerns from the region, VANDA Insights’ founder and analyst Vandana Hari remarked.
Kyiv has ramped up its airstrikes on Russian oil and energy facilities, according to oil market analysts. These attacks have raised concerns about supply disruptions in the global oil market, which is already grappling with geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East and Libya.
