The drone attack sparked a fire at one of the refineries in Ufa in the Bashkortostan region, governor of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov said on social media platform Telegram.
The Ufa region houses three refineries, owned by Bashneft – a subsidiary of Russia’s biggest oil company Rosneft, Bloomberg reported.
These attacks mark a return of Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy production and export infrastructure, following its shift toward targeting Russia-linked tankers in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
Last week, the Ukrainian army hit the port of Ust-Luga. The drone strike started a fire at the key Russian export facility on the Baltic Sea.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted key Russian export hubs – Tuapse and Novorossiysk on the Black Sea, and Ust-Luga and Primorsk on the Baltic – using drones.
Kyiv has launched multiple strikes against Russian processing plants and export terminals, seeking to choke off Moscow's oil revenues while simultaneously straining domestic fuel availability.
