The trial was conducted on Uni-Tanker's 5,700-dwt chemical tanker, M/T Alsia Swan. UK-based marine fuels provider KPI OceanConnect arranged for the delivery through its local team of traders.

The B30 blend contained 30% biofuel components derived from fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) and 70% fossil marine gas oil (MGO), KPI OceanConnect said. This blend resulted in 42% particulate matter emission reduction and 18% carbon monoxide reduction compared to LSMGO, Uni-Tankers reported.

“In a future of tightening regulation of greenhouse gas emissions, this will be an important interim step ship owners can take to maintain compliance and support decarbonisation,” said KPI OceanConnect.
