The 1,250 TEU vessels will be built and managed by German shipowner Elbdeich Reederei. The vessels are expected to be delivered in 2026.
Upon completion, Unifeeder plans to deploy these vessels on its European network, which will aid “to lower the emissions of the network.”
Along with its parent company DP World, the company is working to “find solutions to the challenge of renewable-methanol supply, which needs off-take commitments to build production at the scale that the industry needs to replace conventional fossil fuels,” Unifeeder says.
“We believe in methanol-capable vessels as part of a suite of solutions being deployed to reduce carbon emissions in our sector and are happy to contribute with this project to a greener future in shipping,” Elbdeich Reederei’s managing director Robert Frese says.
Additionally, Unifeeder is working to improve the fuel efficiency of its entire fleet deployed and increase the use of biofuels on its conventional vessels.
