Uniper has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Greenko, an Indian renewable energy firm, to pursue a potential offtake agreement for green ammonia.

Greenko plans to build a green ammonia production plant in Kakinada and aims to produce 1 million mt/year by 2027. The green ammonia will be produced with renewable electricity from solar and wind energy along with electricity sourced from a hydropower plant located in the Kurnool district, Greenko said.

Greenko says that access to hydropower will ensure a steady flow of renewable electricity for green ammonia production.

Uniper plans to export green ammonia from Kakinada to EU countries. The agreement was signed during the India Energy Week 2023 conference this week. Apart from green ammonia, the duo seeks to collaborate on e-methanol production.
