It says Marathon Petroleum’s 593,000 b/d nameplate capacity Galveston Bay refinery in the Texas city has been shut down since Friday due to malfunctions caused by cold weather.
The refinery also produces heavy fuel oil, which is used as a bunker fuel blender and for power generation. The shutdown could lead to a knock-on effect on bunker supplies in Houston area ports and bunker locations off the Gulf Coast.
Also, refineries run by Motiva Enterprise and TotalEnergies outside Houston were shut late last week, Reuters reported.
