The fuel was delivered to shipping firm MSC’s vessel at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim using the Vitol-owned barge Marine Ista. This was the first bunker barge to load directly from Karachi Port Trust Oil Pier.
Pakistan’s largest refinery, Cynergico, produced the fuel from US-crude oil which was sourced from Vitol. The refinery will continue to supply to Vitol as part of a new agreement.
“Our new locations: Karachi Port, Port Qasim, and Karachi Anchorage, Pakistan will be served by our vessel, the Marine Ista, which has the capacity to supply 6,800 mt of marine fuel in a single delivery, enabling large vessels to do long east to west voyages,” Vitol’s bunker trading and marketing manager Syed Ammar Hussaini said.
Vitol will also offer LSMGO to vessels calling at Pakistan’s ports, according to the company’s website.
