Maersk uses second-generation biodiesel derived from waste feedstocks for this service. It has 15,000 containers under this service.
Maersk claims that by using this service, Volvo Cars will be able to "reduce GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions by 28,000 tonnes within the next twelve months."
Volvo Cars will use this service to ship production material to its manufacturing plants in China, Europe, and the Americas. The first delivery took place in June.
“We want to spark other car makers into action as well, to increase demand for carbon-efficient ocean transports and to establish renewable fuels as a mid-term solution that works,” said Maersk Area Nordics’ managing director Birna Odefors.
