Banyan terminal is an integrated oil, chemical and gas hybrid storage facility located on Jurong Island in Singapore. It has a total storage capacity close to 1.5 million cbm.
The firm is considering expanding its ammonia storage capacity to cater to the potential rise in demand for low-carbon fuels from power and maritime industry.
According to managing director of Vopak Terminals Singapore, Rob Boudestijn, the move is “in line with Singapore’s ambition on net-zero carbon emissions,” and can utilise their “proven expertise of safely storing ammonia in Banyan.”
Boudestijn sees “a strong potential in Singapore that supports the momentum of developing ammonia ready infrastructure ahead of other locations.”
Vopak Singapore is a joint venture between Royal Vopak and the Port of Singapore Authority Corporation.
The company is involved in other ammonia projects as well.
Earlier this month, Vopak announced its plans to convert two existing LPG storage tanks at its Vlissingen terminal in the Netherlands to store green ammonia.
It has also collaborated with Gasunie and HES International (HES) to develop an import terminal for green ammonia as a hydrogen carrier in the Port of Rotterdam.
