Wärtsilä will supply fuel equipment for ethane-capable newbuilds

Finnish marine engine manufacturer Wärtsilä will supply cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for five upcoming ethane-capable ships.

The 99,000-cbm capacity very-large ethane carriers will be able to run on ethane and conventional marine fuels, according to Wärtsilä.

The order has been placed by Jiangnan Shipyard, and the ships are being built for “Chinese owners”, it said. Wärtsilä aims to deliver the equipment in 2026.

The company has not specified the timeline of delivery of these vessels.
