Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle is forecast to intensify further while tracking west-southwest, broadly parallel to the Pilbara coastline. The system is expected to turn southward and may pass close to the Northwest Cape, according to Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology.

Operations at the Port of Dampier have been halted today, with the Port of Onslow also set to be affected, a source said.

Ports currently shut include Port Walcott, Onslow (including OMSB), Barrow Island, Cape Preston, Port of Carnarvon, Port Dampier, Varanus Island and Ashburton, according to GAC Hot Port News.

Adverse conditions are also likely to disrupt bunkering at the Port of Fremantle throughout the week, the source added.
