Norwegian short-sea shipping company Wilson has placed orders for six diesel-electric cargo vessels with Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL) - a subsidiary of Indian shipbuilder Cochin Shipyard.

The 3,800-dwt vessels “will be designed to adapt to a wide range of fuel and energy types going forward,” Wilson says.
It is worth mentioning that last month, Wilson announced that its cargo vessel - Wilson Farsund - has been using a B50 biofuel blend of 50% conventional oil-based marine fuel and 50% biofuel made from biomass.
Based on the concept image released, the vessels might also become equipped with wind-propulsion technology.
All six vessels are expected to be delivered by early 2025.
Wilson has the option to place additional orders for eight more newbuilds.
