WinGD introduces LPG option for ammonia dual-fuel engine
Swiss engine manufacturer WinGD has launched a “pre-fit” option for its ammonia dual-fuel engines, enabling them to run on liquified petroleum gas (LPG) with little modifications.

The engine, specifically designed and optimized for ammonia, can also run on LPG with only minor modifications to the injection system, as the material requirements for both fuels are similar, allowing the use of common components, WinGD claims.
This flexibility is particularly relevant for vessels being built for the anticipated global ammonia trade, which will also be capable of transporting LPG. The dual-fuel option will allow operators using ammonia to switch to LPG in the future.
WinGD plans to deliver its first ammonia dual-fuel engine in the first quarter of next year, with the first ship equipped with WinGD engine expected to set sail by 2026.
The LPG retrofit kit for its ammonia dual-fuel engines will be available for delivery by 2027.
