MISC’s petroleum arm, AET, has placed orders for construction of these vessels with Chinese shipbuilder Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC). It has also signed a time-charter agreement with PETCO Trading Labuan Company (PTLCL) for these vessels.
Both MISC and PTLCL are subsidiaries of Malaysia’s national energy firm, Petronas.
The two AET tankers will be equipped with six-cylinder, 62-bore engines, which are expected to be available by 2026 alongside other engine sizes based on market demand, according to WinGD.
WinGD has received orders for its 52-bore and 72-bore ammonia dual-fuel engines from other companies, designed for ammonia carriers and bulkers, with plans to have these engine variants ready by 2025.
The bore size indicates the diameter of an engine cylinder in centimeters.
“First adopters of ammonia fuel are signalling confidence in the viability of both the fuel and the technology to use it,” WinGD director of sales Volkmar Galke said.
