Malaysian green technology firm Yinson GreenTech and its partner Goal Zero Consortium have started construction of a 25 mt-capacity all-electric cargo vessel called Hydromover.

Yinson claims the electric vessel will be energy efficient and have low maintenance costs. It says the batteries can be easily swapped within minutes and reduce downtime.

The duo expects construction of Hydromover to be completed by the second quarter of next year and aims to commercialise it by 2024.

The Hydromover was one of the three winning proposals selected last year by Singapore’s Maritime Port Authority and Maritime Institute to develop electric vessels with swappable batteries.
