The methanol-capable engine underwent a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at ABC’s facility in Ghent, Belgium.

A FAT is a pre-delivery inspection where engines are tested at the manufacturer’s site to verify, they meet contractual and functional requirements before shipment. Meanwhile, a cable-laying vessel is a specialised ship designed to transport, deploy and maintain underwater cables for telecommunications, power transmission and other applications.

The test was supervised by classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) and representatives from Jan De Nul. The engine performed well, maintaining stable operation across various load points.

The engine will be used for Jan De Nul-owned cable-laying vessel Fleeming Jenkin. The company placed this order in June last year.

The engine will soon be shipped to the CMHI shipyard in Nantong, China, for integration into the new vessel.
