ABS awarded an ISM Document of Compliance to ECOLOG after auditing the firm. This document certifies that a shipping company has implemented and maintains a Safety Management System in accordance with international standards.

This approval marks “an industry first,” ABS noted.

ECOLOG intends to construct and operate CO2 terminals along with a fleet of carriers to support the growing CCUS sector, thereby providing affordable carbon utilisation facilities to various emitters.

“Carbon capture, utilisation and storage will be critical for the decarbonisation of hard to abate sectors,” ABS senior vice president Vassilios Kroustallis says.

Last month, Japanese trio of NYK Line, NYK Carbon Carriers (KNCC) and JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation (JX) agreed to jointly study the enhancement of CO2 liquefaction and storage processes using NYK Line’s cargo tank cylinders.

In the same month, Japanese shipping company K Line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha) partnered with energy company Tokyo Gas to study marine transportation of LCO2 for carbon capture and storage (CCS).
