ADNOC plans world's first full CO2 sequestration well
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has started to work on the world’s first fully sequestered carbon dioxide injection well that will help the company to produce lower-carbon ammonia as a hydrogen carrier.

In a sequestered carbon injection project, CO2 is captured and pressurised to a liquid state, before it is injected into underground formations, such as the carbonate saline aquifers that ADNOC plans to use in the UAE.
Carbon capture and sequestration projects have gained popularity in recent years as companies, especially in the fossil fuel or agricultural industries, look to cut their emissions.
ADNOC will capture carbon from fertiliser producer Fertilobe's operations for storage in the UAE's onshore carbonate aquifer formations. It will initially sequester a minimum of 18,000 mt/year of CO2, which is a fraction of ADNOC's goal to capture 5 million mt/year of CO2 by 2030 across its operations.
The ADNOC Group has not reported its current total CO2 emissions.
