Drones launched from Ukraine fell inside the complex of an oil refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban in Russia’s Krasnodar region on Sunday, the district’s official head Roman Sinyagovsky confirmed on his Telegram channel.
"In the early morning hours of May 19, six drones fell on the territory of the Slavyansk-on-Kuban oil refinery during a drone attack," Sinyagovsky wrote.
The refinery halted operations after the attack on Sunday, state-controlled media agency TASS reported, citing security director of the Slavyansk ECO group of companies Eduard Trudnev.
Earlier on Saturday, another barrage of missiles caused a fire in Russian state-owned oil company Rosneft’s Tuapse refinery in Krasnodar region, the country’s defense ministry said. The news supported Brent’s price as the oil market “got a reminder that geopolitical risks have not evaporated,” ANZ Bank’s senior commodity strategist Daniel Hynes said.
“Rosneft’s large Taupse refinery on the Black Sea… has a nameplate capacity of 240,000 b/d but had only just resumed operations after an attack in January,” he further remarked.
“Oil prices maintained their weekly gains as attention turned to geopolitical tensions in Russia,” Saxo Bank’s analysts said in a note.
