The company first announced plans for the plant in 2023 and has now completed the initial front-end engineering design (pre-FEED) study, evaluating its design and construction.
The facility will use locally sourced forestry residues, such as harvest trimmings and damaged timber, and green hydrogen to produce 300,000 mt/year of biomethanol, HAMR Energy said.
The firm ultimately plans to develop green methanol plants with a combined capacity of 1 million mt/year to serve shipping and other sectors as demand for low-emission fuels grows.
