The fuel was supplied to the container ship CMA CGM Fort Bourbon. The bio-LNG, certified under ISCC-EU standards, was produced at the Cartagena Regasification Plant, with the proof of sustainability certificate issued by Spain’s Enagás.

“This operation demonstrates Axpo’s commitment to pioneering sustainable LNG solutions in the Iberian market and actively supporting the decarbonisation of the maritime sector,” Axpo's small scale LNG operations head Daniele Corti said.

However, the company has not disclosed further details, such as the bunker barge used for the delivery or whether a mass balance accounting method was applied in its production.

Also known as liquefied biomethane (LBM), bio-LNG consists of approximately 99.8% methane. LNG-capable vessels can run on either pure LBM or LBM-LNG blends without any modifications.

This delivery follows Axpo’s recent LNG bunkering operations in major ports including Málaga, Algeciras, and Sines.
