MOL’s vehicle carrier, Lapis Ace, received an unspecified amount of bio-LNG from Axpo's bunkering vessel Green Pearl.
Axpo has previously conducted STS bio-LNG transfers in Málaga and Algeciras, making Barcelona the third Spanish port to conduct such operations.
Bio-LNG is a renewable liquefied fuel made from organic waste-derived biomethane, and used as a lower-carbon alternative to conventional LNG.
Last week, MOL signed agreements with liquefied biomethane (LBM) suppliers, Axpo and Titan, to bunker its car carriers in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean.
LBM, or bio-LNG, can be used as a drop-in fuel in vessels that are LNG-capable and is a cleaner alternative to fossil LNG.
