The ferry, Margarita Salas, was built in Armon de Gijón’s shipyard in Spain and will begin operations next week in the Balearic Islands, the company said.

The 123-meter-long ferry is equipped with four LNG-powered dual-fuel engines and can run at a maximum service speed of 35 knots.

The ferry has been constructed in partnership with Finnish manufacturing company Wärtsilä for an aggregate cost of about €126 million ($136 million).

Margarita Salas is equipped with two LNG tanks, with a range of about 400 miles sailing on LNG and a total range of 1,000 miles (LNG plus conventional). The vessel is also equipped with an onshore power supply system (OSP) that allows it to connect to shore power during port calls.

Baleària's first LNG-powered dual-fuel fast ferry, Eleanor Roosevelt, has been operating since May 2021.
