The agreement was signed by the Port of Barcelona, the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission (SMTC), and Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG).
Beyond alternative fuels, the partnership will focus on digitalisation, green port development, and the creation of sustainable maritime corridors linking the Far East and the Mediterranean. The agreement also formally establishes a “sister ports” relationship between Shanghai and Barcelona.
However, the parties have not disclosed further details about the initiative, including the types of alternative fuels under consideration, project capacity, or implementation timeline.
