Under the deal, initially, three of CMA CGM’s vessels will be retrofitted to access shore power.
These retrofits will be carried out at Damen’s shiprepair yards - Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque (DSDu), France and Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam (DSAm), Netherlands.
Apart from shore power access, most of CMA CGM’s vessels will undergo bow bulbs retrofits at Damen’s shiprepair yards. Bow bulbs on ships are protrusions located at the front of the hull, designed to reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency by altering water flow.
“The bulb retrofits will yield savings in fuel consumption of between 5 to 10%,” Damen said.
Nine visits (five at DSDu and four at DSAm) are scheduled at Damen’s shiprepair yards by CMA CGM this year.
