CMA CGM Berenice is the fifth vessel in the carrier's planned fleet of six 15,000-TEU container ships. It is equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of operating on methanol and conventional fuels.

CMA CGM took delivery of the first four vessels in this series earlier this year.

CMA CGM has planned a total of 24 vessels for its methanol-capable fleet. This includes 12 vessels with a capacity of 13,000 TEU, six 15,000-TEU vessels, and another six 9,300-TEU container ships that are expected to be retrofitted for methanol dual-fuel propulsion.

CMA CGM has contracted China's Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry to carry out the methanol retrofits, according to multiple reports.

The French liner aims to expand its combined LNG- and methanol-capable fleet to 200 vessels by 2030.
