Cyclone Alfred disrupts bunker operations in Brisbane
Vessel movements at Queensland’s Port of Brisbane have been restricted since Monday due to Cyclone Alfred, a source says.

The cyclone is currently estimated to be 365 kms east of Brisbane and 340 kms east-northeast of the Gold Coast.
It is expected to continue approaching the southeast Queensland coast tonight, with its far western edge already affecting areas from Coolangatta to Ballina. The cyclone is forecast to maintain its intensity as it moves closer, with its centre expected to cross the coast on Friday, according to Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology (BoM).
The regional harbour master has closed the Brisbane and Southport Pilotage Areas, including associated waterways, rivers, marinas, buoy mooring grids and anchorages, to all vessels. Port of Brisbane authorities stated that port operations will be suspended on Thursday and Friday.
Additionally, all cruise vessels have been diverted, and bunker supplies are subject to harbour master approval. A bunker supplier is awaiting approval for vessel movement, a source said.
Meanwhile, bunker supply continues at inner anchorage and at berth at the Port of Gladstone, but any supply at anchorage depends on weather conditions. Although the Port of Gladstone was along Cyclone Alfred’s previous predicted path, it is no longer expected to be impacted.
