Designed by the Dutch Conoship International, the two 3,600-dwt vessels will transport dry cargo with a hold capacity of 5,100 cbm. They will be deployed to sail on the Rhine River and other inland waterways as the vessels are designed as low air draft ships.
De Bock Maritiem says the two vessels will have 50% lower emissions compared to other vessels in the current European shortsea fleet. They are also said to come with 30% higher energy efficiency than the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) requirement because they have lower power consumption, as well as more efficient propellers and hulls.
The contract with De Bock Maritiem takes Holland Shipyards orderbook for similar diesel-electric shortsea vessels to five since December. Hartel Shipping & Chartering ordered the other three newbuild coasters on 20 December.
