A pusher tug is a type of vessel designed to propel and guide barges or other non-self-propelled vessels by pushing them from behind.
Naval architects, C-Job Naval and Kooiman Marine, have been selected for the project.
The company plans to gradually replace its seven pusher tugs with the methanol dual-fuel ones at the end of their technical service life. It expects to order the first methanol dual-fuel pusher tug soon.
thyssenkrupp expects to reduce its current CO2 emissions by around 80% by using methanol as fuel.
Its seven pusher tags currently operate between Europoort Rotterdam, Netherlands and the Ruhr area, Germany, transporting raw materials for the iron and steel plants.
