Canadian methanol supplier Methanex Corporation in collaboration with Port of Gothenburg and Stena Line delivered the methanol stem to Stena Germanica.

In 2015, Stena Line converted Stena Germanica to run on methanol, thus making it the world's first ferry to burn methanol. It operates between Sweden’s Port of Gothenburg and Germany’s Port of Kiel.

Port of Gothenburg aims to become a renewable methanol bunkering hub in the Northern European region.

“This is a door-opening demonstration, proving that there is a feasible way to handle ship-to-ship methanol bunkering,” Gothenburg Port Authority’s senior business development manager Christoffer Lillhage says.
