The three vessels - the Finnlady, the Finnmaid and the Finnstar - were installed with shore power systems by Norway-based Manta Marine Technologies.

Manta Marine worked to prepare the vessels for installation of shore power systems, while Finnlines - in partnership with the port authorities - developed a cable management system for the quayside.

The first phase of the installation process was carried out in 2023. The installation on the first vessel - the Finnmaid - took place over a period of 10 months, with the initial trial onboard the vessel taking place at the Port of Helsinki in December 2023.

This was followed closely by the Finnlady in the beginning of 2024, and then the Finnstar.

Shore power has been gaining traction across ports and ship operators globally because it helps to reduce emissions while a ship is berthed.

This month, the Danish port of Aarhus applied for EU funding to install shore power system at its container terminal, while French shipping major CMA CGM contracted Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards to carry out modifications including shore power access in around 100 of CMA CGM’s vessels.
