FueLNG completes 150th STS LNG bunkering in Singapore

FueLNG’s bunker vessel, FueLNG Bellina, delivered an undisclosed amount of fossil LNG to Japanese shipping company NYK Line’s vessel, Freesia Leader. This operation marked FueLNG’s 150th ship-to-ship (STS) bunkering operations, the company announced.
FueLNG highlighted that it took two and a half years to reach the first 100 STS bunkering operations and then rapidly accelerated to the next 50 stems in just around five months. This underscores “the exponential growth and burgeoning demand for LNG bunkering in Singapore.”
LNG bunker sales surged by 17,000 mt in Singapore to an all-time high of 27,000 mt in February. LNG bunker sales have grown for the third consecutive month as cheaper LNG prices have triggered more oil-to-gas switching, according to latest figures from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
“LNG is the lowest carbon marine fuel available at scale today and holds a key to achieving the industry’s collective goal of net-zero emissions by 2050,” FueLNG said.
LNG can curb carbon dioxide emissions by about a quarter compared to conventional bunker fuels. But its methane emissions can be 36 times more potent as a GHG compared to carbon dioxide over a century, according to a World Bank study.
