The German government will invest €400 million (approximately $470 million) to advance the decarbonisation of its maritime sector, with a strong focus on developing bunkering infrastructure for alternative fuels.

The fund will be used over the next four years to develop shore power systems, bunkering facilities for alternative fuels and green shipping corridors. The funding will come from the government’s Climate and Transformation Fund (KTF).
However, specific details—such as which alternative fuels will be supported or which ports will be involved—have not yet been disclosed.
The government noted that details of the funding opportunities are still being developed and will be shared later this year.
