Germany's 'first' fully electric passenger ferry arrives in Norden
German shipping firm Reederei Norden-Frisia has taken delivery of a fully electric catamaran from Damen Shipyards.

The electric ferry is equipped with two 600-kilowatt (kW) battery-powered motors for propulsion.
“The vessel will be CO2 neutral when operating and the electricity that charges its batteries will come from onshore solar panels,” Damen Shipyards said in a statement.
The passenger ferry is scheduled to make eight trips on the 30-minute route between Germany’s Norddeich and the North Sea island of Norderney during the peak tourist season. It will be recharged after each trip, taking 28 minutes to fully recharge, Reederei Norden-Frisia said.
