The study will be conducted by a consortium comprising the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Japanese energy firm ENEOS Corporation, global shipping company Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) and global logistics firm SEACOR Holdings.

The group has jointly undertaken the study to develop a methanol bunkering and supply chain network along the US Gulf Coast. It aims to establish commercial-scale ship-to-ship methanol bunkering operations in the US. However, it has not provided a timeline for the project.

Under the joint initiative, ABS will provide regulatory support for establishing methanol bunkering operations. ENEOS will assess the procurement, sale and supply of low-carbon methanol, including green methanol.

NYK Line will contribute technically, borrowing from its previous experience in developing LNG bunkering infrastructure. It will provide technical guidance for developing methanol bunkering vessels.

SEACOR Holdings will oversee the ownership and operation of bunkering barges.
