The vessels will be able to run on both LNG and conventional marine fuels. Each vessel will have the capacity to carry 10,800 vehicles.

Hyundai Glovis expects the vessels to be delivered by the end of 2028.

However, the company has not disclosed any details regarding the shipbuilder or the shipyard where these ships will be constructed.

“Building a new fleet of LNG dual fuel propulsion engines to stabilize mid- to long-term fleet operations, respond to strengthened international environmental regulations, and achieve the company's 2045 carbon neutral roadmap,” the company claimed.

LNG can curb carbon dioxide emissions by about a quarter compared to conventional bunker fuels. But its methane emissions can be 36 times more potent as a greenhouse gas (GHG) compared to carbon dioxide over a century, according to a World Bank study.
