The construction tender process announced by the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority is nearing completion, with construction expected to begin this month.

The production site will be developed, including the installation of new engineering networks or the reconstruction of existing ones, such as electricity and hydrogen pipelines.

The hydrogen plant will be housed in a standard 40-foot container, with expected production of 127 mt/yr of hydrogen.

The infrastructure will be designed to supply hydrogen not only to vessels but also to trucks and buses in the port.

“Klaipėda Port has set an ambitious goal – to become the first in Lithuania and the Baltic region operating a green hydrogen production station,” said Algis Latakas, director general of the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority.

However, the port authority has not revealed the source of renewable electricity for green hydrogen production in this project.

The project is being carried out under the Economic Recovery and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU recovery initiative.
